Welcome to the Insurance Institute of Norwich

Serving our insurance colleagues in Norwich and Norfolk
The Chartered Insurance Institute is the premier professional organisation for those working in the insurance and financial services industry. It is dedicated to promoting higher standards of competence and integrity through the provision of relevant qualifications for employees at all levels and across all sectors of the industry.

The Chartered Insurance Institute's mission statement is :

"Protecting the public by guiding the profession"

Dear Colleague,

Welcome to the Insurance Institute of Norwich website.

President's Foreword

Dear member,

I am delighted to have the opportunity to represent you all for a second term as president after a few years' break. Our immediate past president handed over the reins at the recent AGM, at which he was deservedly thanked for his hard work over the last year and, indeed, as Deputy in the year before. Our new Deputy is Peter Garnham, another past-president and currently a Vice President of our body.

Your council has put in a good deal of hard work to arrange an exciting lecture programme for the 2008/09 season providing an ideal opportunity for you to record CPD points.

The ever popular quizzes and golf tournaments will feature through the year. The social calendar will include a new event, a Mystery Walk in Norwich City centre in June that promises to be an interesting and entertaining evening.

On the education front we will be offering a range of one day courses, both insurance technical and soft skills, and to maximise the benefit of these ‘Exam Technique’ sessions will be available for our students.

Our Annual Dinner takes place at Dunston Hall, Norwich (a new venue this year) on Friday 26th September and bookings are now being taken. This should make for a sparkling event with some first class entertainment and is an opportunity to enjoy an evening with friends and colleagues. If you have not attended the dinner before or in recent years, since the format of the event has undergone a radical change, we hope you will join us this year.

Hopefully some of these events will be of interest to you and if you have any suggestions or comments about the work of your local Institute please contact me, or any council member, we will be very pleased to hear from you.

I look forward to meeting you at some of our events where you will be warmly welcomed.

Final Thoughts

To all our Members, this is your institute and is for your benefit. We wish to provide as wide and as varied a programme as we possibly can. To help us in this, we welcome your comments and input, as well as any suggestions for future topics and social events. As an institute, our main functions are to promote the aims of the CII which are, amongst other things, to improve knowledge and skills within the industry as a whole. We fully support the examination process and ARE anxious to give as much help as possible to all students, hence the talks on exam techniques.

Financial Industry courses are made available at City College Norwich. Contact 01603 773002 for further details of the subjects offered.

On the subject of Exams, the Insurance Institute of Norwich would like to offer our continued thanks to Cliff Dady and his team who work tirelessly to ensure that the exam day is made seamless for the candidate.

As always we are grateful for all the support we receive from our local employers in the financial services industry, particularly Norwich Union and Marsh who allow us to use their premises for meetings, lectures and office space.

Charity

Finally, as an institute we are pleased to donate as much as we can to Charity. Over the past 12 months, we have been donating money to the Insurance Charities, which is certainly a deserving cause. They give vital financial and practical support to past and present employees of the industry (whether or not they have been members of the Chartered Insurance Institute), and their dependant relatives, who are suffering financial hardship. We would like to thank everyone who has donated to charity. As well as Insurance Charities Day, we will continue to raise money for charity at our Annual Dinner.
