MacKenzie Lees Golf Tournament - June 2008The MacKenzie Lees Golf Tournament was once again held at Eaton Golf Club. This year only twelve players contested the event, the smallest field for years, possibly because of the clash of date with the Norfolk Show. There were some good scores recorded but none better than the 37 Stableford points put together by Tom Bailey (Marsh). Tom, who plays at Diss off a handicap of 4 was very complimentary about the condition of the course, and particularly the greens, which were in excellent condition. The Richard Greenwood Tankard (for handicaps in excess of 18) was won by Barrie Palmer (NU) with a score of 34 points, Barrie retaining the tankard he won last year. For the record, Richard Gill won the Nearest to the Hole, and Richard Hastings produced the Longest Drive on the day, both players being rewarded with a bottle of Sainsbury's best claret. Sue Donmall (President) was on hand to present the trophies after a meal in the clubhouse to round off a day enjoyed by all the contestants, and is pictured with Tom. We hope that more interest will be generated in 2009, to carry on the event, first established in 1926. Our thanks go to Richard Boughton for his organisation on the day, which culminated in a reduction in the green fee per member. It is pleasant to report that the players kindly donated this windfall for inclusion in our donation for the Insurance Charities. Also pictured is the 2007 winner - Peter Green of Cavell. |
